Mistakes Were Made
by Meryl Wilsner
2/5 stars.
The writing was pretty good in terms of getting through to the reader but it felt very repetitive. I was being told about their age gap, how they shouldn't be doing this behind Parker's back or how this was the last time (and then they continued nonetheless) and it was just said or written on the page every few pages. It was less show more tell and sometimes it worked but most times, it didn't. Other than Parker, none of the characters really had any development. Cassie or Erin, neither had any consequences for their actions. Like, you are telling me Acacia was the one who had to explain and talk sense into Parker about her mom's and best friend's relationship rather than I don't know the mom or the best friend? Yes, they talked to her and explained but why did that happened in the last 20 pages? The smut? Good, great even. But that was about all that was enjoyable. Again, I love books or any piece of media that has no plot, makes it fun and interesting to see what drives the piece of work but if there is no character arc as well? That kinda doesn't make sense.
Last but not the least, maybe it isn't a big deal but the age gap was also not something I could wrap my head around. A 26-27 yo with a 40 yo? I could be fine but a 21 yo with a 40 yo just, it doesn't do right with me, especially if it turns out that there is a common thread between them.
Maybe I am reading too much into it, haha that was funny! But yeah, there we go! Those are my thoughts. The smut was pretty good, it was!
