The Villain Edit by Laurie Devore
I picked up this one because it was marketed as "Emily Henry meets Fleabag... and The Bachelor!" and the result definitely had me curious.
Well! What a ride! I reaaally enjoyed it. The main character is just flawed enough to be annoying without making me want her demise. The chemistry between her and Henry was off the charts, seriously. The whole "can't be ourselves, can't say what we really think because cameras and mics" was really well played all throughout the book. At one point, things got quite a bit dark and it gave me the same chills a good thriller would. The characters' personal traumas were not too much, they made sense and were used correctly.
My only disappointment was the ending, satisfying per se but a bit rushed imo. Maybe I just didn't want to say goodbye to Jacqueline, I don't know.
Definitely more bitter, more nihilistic than a romcom, but a lot of fun nonetheless. Also some very beautiful writing.
