I started this last year when Blair was in the Iditarod, but couldn't make the time. It's winter again so I restarted, and wow. It takes a bit to get into, because there are different timelines, but once I was in, I was in.
I thought this was mostly going to be about mushing and dog sledding, but it's actually more about Blair specifically and her history. It's very intimate. There are many different relationships with men, and some of them are violent, sexual, both. It can be hard to read. I don't mind that it's there, as it's a real part of her history (and I think it's weird to be critical of that), but I do think it bears a warning.
It's so interesting, and I feel like there are so many things that were just mentioned that could actually each become a full book on their own. Fascinating, especially if you embrace it as a story about a young woman adventurer growing up.
