The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

5.0

This is a bit of a biased review because this book was literally, introduced to me in middle school, and I grew up with it along the way.

Rick Riordan, for those that don't know, lives in San Antonio, where I went to school. Middle school is easily known as The Most Traumatic Horrible Years of my life, even now as a 23 year old. These books offered me an escape, The Lightning Thief was assigned for me to read in 7th grade and my teacher made a big deal about him being from here. I think they were trying to change the cirriculum and encourage kids to read, which was a struggle in my school, even in Honors English. Meanwhile all I did was hide behind books (not so much now, but definitely back then). I read so many books I honestly can't remember how many books I even owned back when I was 9-14 years old. I ended up donating all of them when we moved to a new house, I didn't have a book shelf anymore, and honestly I didn't read as much anymore.

So basically, it was nice to pick up this series during my last semester of college during senior year and experience this book/series again at a happier time in my life.
