I wanted to like this book as much as everyone else seems to but I didn’t feel connected to the story.

I loved Vikings so I was really ready to love this world, and for the most part I did! The magic system was refreshing and there were aspects of the romance between the FMC and MMC that were enjoyable - BUT you could see the twist coming from a mile away with your eyes closed. I normally enjoy female rage but, again, BUT, this bihh annoyed me so much lmao. She was super childish in her anger, came across as entitled and seemed like she thought she could have an opinion on other people’s relationships with their families.
Like to the point of being angry about Bjorn’s hatred towards Snorri while constantly complaining about being used by SNORRI and also telling Bjorn that he should grow some balls when it came to said father.

Their relationship fell flat in a way to me as well. There just didn’t seem to be much there and then all of a sudden he loves her? All of a sudden she’s devastated and depressed for days about a lady she just met that died? The same lady she thought might not be honest in her intentions? What?

I think this book should’ve been longer. There was so much that had to happen for the story to move the way it did, that I feel like there was not enough time to discuss the relationships.
Which was why Freya happens to not notice that she knows next to nothing about Bjorn until the last, like, 5 pages.

All in all, it wasn’t the worst book I’ve read this year. But it’s very forgettable imo.
