Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

5.0

I have only read one other book by Leigh Bardugo before this, her YA series opener Shadow and Bone, so I wasn't sure what to expect from Ninth House

I was captivated by this book from the very beginning. I forced myself to take my time reading it, and I'm glad I prolonged my enjoyment of the story. Alex's and Darlington's narratives sit in perfect harmony, each perspective building in intensity as the threads of the story draw ever closer. The characters were all excellently developed. Alex is exactly the kind of character we need more of: resilient, powerful, unapologetic, and flawed in ways often considered too ugly for a female-led narrative. Dawes, however, was easily my favourite character. I felt a particular kinship with her, and I was often in awe of her quiet strength which began to show itself as the book progressed.
