After The Rain by Norma Fox Mazer
4.0
I wasn't convinced in the first 50 pages of this book that I'd like it. But then the author moved past the teenage-girl-interested-in-a-boy emphasis and it became an excellent novel. The care and compassion that the main character shows her grandfather while his health is declining is heartwarming. She is the catalyst for some other members of her family to honestly evaluate their feelings about him. I'd recommend this book to readers ten and older with the caveat that they need to be mature enough to handle the death of the grandfather and the details leading to his demise.
