Contrary to some negative reviews I'd seen from a couple people I follow on Goodreads, I found this to be a solid, fun Avengers book. I don't care whether there are kids on the team or not - and this particular run is extremely self-aware about that dynamic - what I care about is how well the characters' voices come through. In this case, Mark Waid is doing a great job of introducing characters to new readers while keeping those of us already very familiar with them interested in the steps of the story. Seeing fights with Kang and then Annihilus drawn out but mostly wrapped up within the first two volumes felt like a well-done Monster of the Week feat, and timely for me considering Kang's recent reveal in the MCU via the Loki series.

I'm dreading having to get through more Civil War II issues but the completist in me insists on sticking with this whole run.
