Too Close to Home
by Linwood Barclay
I really loved this book for its complex plot, flawed yet relatable characters and its tense conclusion. The novel seemed determined for me to finish it in one sitting which was no hardship for me!! I was caught up in the tension from the first page and instantly found myself warming to Jim Cutter, the narrator and protagonist. The common factor that I have found in Barclay's novels is his absolutely flawless ability to create and develop a likeable and relatable narrator who is so well-developed that they almost seem real. The opinions, reactions and history of Jim Cutter were fleshed out and so well explained that I warmed to him immediately and stayed hooked to his plight.
The plot itself was twisty and unexpected and really quite thrilling right until the end. While many of the characters were flawed (and a few downright insane) somehow Barclay makes you really care for them. I was hooked from the start and thought this was a really well-deserving 5 stars.
