The last time Meave saw her cousin Andrea was the night they escaped the cult they were born into. 20 years later, after searching for Andrea for years, Andrea suddenly appears. Soon after Meave is spending time with Andrea at her remote estate. The more she immerses herself in Andrea’s world, the more she feels disconnected from her life. Meave has spent years dealing with her trauma but with Andrea back in her life the memories are triggered and the nightmares return.

Do you like remote estate settings? What about cults? If you answered yes then you need to grab Just Like Mother. The gothic tones mixed with cult vibes was perfect. I really liked the atmosphere in both the past and present. It’s not a book for me without good character development but this one was more of a character reveal, you’re discovering things right alongside Maeve.

I have to mention, the writing was quite propulsive. I couldn’t put it down! Go in expecting a slow buildup and some predictions, but it was totally worth it. I also appreciated that this cult was matriarchal vs patriarchal, turning the typical cult stereotype on its head.

This cover actually creeps me out so much but after reading the story, it really does fit perfectly! A great title to binge in one or two sittings.

Thank you @tornightfire for sending the review copy my way, Just Like Mother may be my fave horror I’ve read this year yet, 5✨! Excited to discuss this with our mini group read @cozyinthenook and @villainousreader… can’t wait for all the updates!!
