Black Wings Beating by Alex London

3.0

I have had this book on my audible account for almost a year and never really listened to it. Until today.

I honestly have no idea what I was expecting to get from Black Wings Beating and I still don't after finishing it. The world started off leaving me in awe but then I slowly got less intrigued and more annoyed throughout the book. Things just weren't making sense or adding up for my brain today. Maybe I'm just so tired or I'm doing way too many things while listening to this book (like chores, making dinner, or even watching the horrible redskins vs giants game).

Either way, it was meh to my poor tired Sunday brain.

In it, you will meet Kylee and Brysen. They are twins with different goals. He not only wants to be a falconer, but a great one. Then there's Kylee who wants absolutely nothing to do with it. She is so close to freedom that she can taste it - until the second she can't. There's a war coming and now she has to put her needs/wants aside and help everyone out.

Again, it was interesting to a point. I get it, women are badasses and I'm all for it but during points of the endless worldbuilding or information dumping - I was bored. Then there's the issue of the twins, I absolutely loved Kylee. Heck I wanted her freedom to become a thing because she wanted more than that life. However, there's Brysen and I liked him but he mostly annoyed the living shit out of me. It's like he couldn't handle that Kylee was a bit better than him (and by a bit.. she was a lot better than him). Ugh, men and their egos are annoying.

Stupid twats.

Overall, would've liked this a lot more if Brysen was less his asshole self and more likable.
