Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

Spoilers? I don’t think so. 5/5 stars for sure. I went into this book without knowing anything about it besides that it is historical fiction, and wow this is officially my new favorite book. It is a historical fiction book about a teenager Lina, her brother, and her mother getting deported and having to struggle through so many different obstacles in order to survive. It is a painfully heartbreaking story, while also empowering and well written. This book will definitely stay with me throughout the years. I am excited to eventually read the companion novel Salt to the Sea soon. I must say that you need to be willing to try it out and not know too much about it before you read it. What’s inside is much better than what is written as the synopsis. I will say that although it was amazing, the ending was very sudden and felt sort of rushed. The ending was still pretty good though.
