I recently finished my audio reread of dowry and really enjoyed it! When I first read this book I wasn't the biggest fan and was expecting more horror than what was in the book.
Upon my second read I enjoyed it a lot more! This is a lush gothic tale, depicting toxic, abusive and dependent relationships. Gibson is such a beautiful writer and does a great job of depicting difficult relationships. I adored the writing and the characters strength and how brutal and harsh the world was. At the end of the book it still felt slightly lacking in some parts but I overall really enjoyed it.
I cannot wait for her Carmilla retelling.
