british2197 's review for:
Beyond the Kingdoms
by Chris Colfer
Just when I thought they had fairytales covered, they move to great pieces of children's literature. It was nice to see what the twins could do by themselves without the guidance of the Fairy Godmother. Colfer leads his characters even further on the path of self-discovery. Red really comes into her own, and there's a side to her that I hope will be explored further in the next book: the caring side that has forced her to become a hero in order to save Froggy, Alex can't get her emotions under control, still reeling from the discovered identity of the Masked Man, Connor learns to have more self-confidence and starts to have faith in himself and Bree goes on another expedition, this one to learn more about her genealogy.
I just wish we could have spent more time with Emmerich (who only makes a cameo appearance in the book) and the characters from the new stories. It would have answered some of my questions, like 'What does Dorothy do without the Tin Woodman by her side?' and 'if the crew followed the same path as Dorothy down the Yellow Brick Road, why did they not meet the Cowardly Lion?' Connor's dating advice to Robin Hood was hilarious. I can't wait to see what Colfer has up his sleeves for the next book, especially for Connor.
