A Man Among Ye Volume 1 by Stephanie Phillips

4.0

4/5 because of that gorgeous art style!

OK, I knew I was going to love this from the moment I saw the cover! But Anne Bonny, Mary and the women from her newly-founded crew were amazing!

I’m a sucker for women in power, those who deny to be on their knees and fight back, no matter what. It delivered what I expected from a pirate story, so I’m glad I gave this one a chance.

Apparently, the story is also based on actual people, women who were pirates and whose legend is still alive. Thus, it was easy for me to love the way they’re portrayed: as powerful, witty, and relatable women that fight their way to survive against a world that’s ruled by men who think they can get away with their crimes.

It’s funny to see that pirates, who were the real criminals, have more honor than people who lead entire armies and countries.

Anyway, I liked the fact that we see all different types and sizes of women with interesting personalities who look after each other. The circumstances might have brought them together, but they have the potential to grow into a marvelous crew, one of those found families my heart always craves for.

The art is gorgeous, the action scenes were quite good and the pacing made me read it in one sit! There’s always something going on so you never get bored. On the contraire, I wish this was longer! I seriously hope we can see the next volume soon because I can’t wait to know what happens with these badass pirates!
