20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
by Jules Verne
I find myself torn about this book. For one thing, it is remarkable that Verne was able to write such an accurate account of submarine living. For another thing, though, I find myself wishing that ecology was more prevalent during Verne's time. I'm also a little disappointed by the characterization in the book, as Captain Nemo is as intriguing a character as ever, but Professor Arronax and his companions are extremely lacking in character. It's a good read, and I'm glad I revisited it, but the age of the book certainly shows.
