I shockingly did not enjoy this, and I was a huge fan of the original novel as a kid - it had a huge impact on me. I don't know if was the visual medium, the absence of a lot of inner thoughts, or lack of supportive narrative description, but I disliked almost every character in this book. Meg didn't seem like a protagonist at all, just a whiny sister swept along for the ride, Charles felt like he had no redeeming qualities, and Calvin seemed patriarchal and a little insufferable. The religious aspect also felt much more in-your-face and clunky than I remembered. Was it this way in the book and I just never noticed it? Either way, would not recommend this to kids, and I think I might need to re-read the original.
