Finally - a true "zombie apocalypse" entry into the canon of young adult literature! My worlds have collided and I couldn't be happier! =)

This book scores major points on all levels -- it's human drama that just happens to be taking place in a world overrun by zombies, or as they're called here, Unconsecrated. Carrie Ryan blends dystopia, romance, and horror with CRAZY SKILL! I hope this breeds a sequel sometime down the road because there is so much more story that could be told.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

Mary lives in a fortified village run by an overbearing theocracy called the Sisterhood. The Sisterhood controls everything and has many secrets to keep. Mary, the main character, has lost her mother to the Unconsecrated and finds herself taken in by The Sisterhood to either become one of them, or until she becomes betrothed. She wants a young man named Travis, but another guy, Harry wants her. Lots of tension, romance, and drama going on there. It's pretty overwhelming to Mary. Just as she thinks she's out of choices, she learns of a girl who has come from outside the village, and her presence may completely destroy everything the Sisterhood has done to keep the village under their authority.

Received ARC from library system - will DEFINITELY purchase for teen collection!
