Review of The Last Watch
By: J.S. Dewes
The Argus is crew of outcasts and troublemakers that have been assigned to guard the Divide, aka the edge of the universe. When it starts collapsing Captain Adequin Rake has to rely on her crew and a banished Prince Cavalon to save everyone and everything from collapsing into it.
This is quite an exciting and thrilling adventure that was a little slow in some parts but picked up in others. I liked the characters, but there was a distance between the reader and the characters as we were dropped in the middle of their story. I like Emery and Jackin as characters as they were fun and interesting. I did like the arc of Cavalon trying to defeat his family but learns that he was doing anything impactful. The romance between Rake and Griffith felt lack luster and I wished we got to watch it develop instead of starting when it was already. We barely got a chance to know them, though it’s not the main plot. I like that Cavalon was dealing with having a panic attacks, but it was a little too convenient that he had a lot of the skills they needed to survive. The science terminology went over my head, and it was hard to follow along at times, but that’s more me not being a science person. The story was entertaining and at the moment I’m curious to continue.
