The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 2: Dallas by Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá

5.0

Blurb: Surpassing it's predecessor in every way, Dallas manages to right the minute wrongs of the Apocalypse Suite.

If I thought that The Apocalypse Suite was dark, twisted and borderline sadistic, then I was proven wrong by this brilliant follow-up. Dallas manages to retain the same level of quirkiness and humor while painting a rather poignant picture regarding life, death and history. This entire volume can be summed up in the following words uttered by Pogo, "We each play the part written for us. You can't fight the future." or in this case, both Past and Future.

The plot is greatly layered and it makes you lose track of the big picture. Which is good, because there's nothing more disappointing than a plot that unravels before it's meant to. The idiosyncrasies and character flaws of all the siblings is given ample development and explanation, and the artwork, along with the neatness of the panels continue to shine as always.

All-in-all, The Umbrella Academy for me has been the best alternative Fantasy/Fiction Graphic Novel since I read the Watchmen. I'm by no means equating the two in terms of story & art, but merely the joy and pleasure they both gave me. Which was the same.
