A Sorrow Fierce and Falling by Jessica Cluess

5.0

This book took my heart apart one piece at a time.

Maybe I'll come back and write a more complete review once I've had time to process the trauma at the hands of a paperback that I was just subjected to, but here is my jumble of thoughts all happening at once.

-Blackwood deserved better. It felt forced to have him regress so much, and for seemingly no reason other than getting him out of the way.

-I get it is supposed to be a period piece, but Howell is such a leader in questioning so much about the treatment of magical people, but never questions the treatment of women nor the rules she holds herself to?

- I had much higher expectations for the rune from Titania

And yet despite all that:

- I love that no character is all good nor all bad, but shows that there are two sides to everything, and everyone lives in the gray.

-The writing is beautiful.

-The epilogue tied everything up the way I needed it to.

Normally with this many complaints about a book I would give it 3-4 stars.....but I know I loved this 5 stars worth, so I'm going to go with my gut, recognizing that this is not a book everyone is going to enjoy.
