Paige’s husband up and leaves her high and dry, draining their accounts so she’s left scrambling to find and job and place to live. She ends up meeting Misha and they have a one night stand but what neither of them know is he’s her new boss. They’re shocked when they see each other at the office for the first time but she really needs the job so she continues to work for him. While she’s at a business outing with him an accident happens and she ends up in the hospital where they find out the single night they had together would never be forgotten. Misha demands they get married and due to a few circumstances Paige reluctantly agrees. Unfortunately for Paige Misha’s walls are as tall as mountains and tougher than steel, it’s impossible to get close to him so when she starts catching feelings he doesn’t reciprocate (at least visibly) and they find themselves constantly arguing.
I really really wanted to give this book 5 stars because once I started reading it I couldn’t stop but Misha is SO cold and mean. He makes it really hard to like him. One of the things he said is completely unforgivable imo. He used an insecurity about her past against her, something he knew she struggled with, and excused saying it because he was angry. Absolutely not. It doesn’t matter if it’s said in anger, sadness, etc, that doesn’t excuse it at all. Also this book could’ve definitely been much longer, there are scenes that could’ve been cut as they weren’t necessary and didn’t further the plot in the least and they had the same arguments over and over again.
Sometimes I really like Paige and how she doesn’t always let him walk all over her but sometimes she makes really dumb decisions even though she knows she’s in danger. And her backbone could be a little stronger, sometimes she does seem to give into him when I wish she would smack him.
Misha is so terrified of losing someone else he loves that he constantly pushes people away. He does some really sweet things for Paige but damn does she pay for them when he’s mad. I wanted to cry a few times for Paige and my chest ached constantly from the hurtful things Misha said.
Edited to add: I DNF’d book 2 at 26%. I can’t deal with Misha anymore. He’s horrible and nothing he can do now will change my mind. He threw Cara’s death in her face like wtf. And she’s trying to seduce him??? I think the fuck not. I don’t think I’ve ever hated an mmc more than I do him and that’s coming from a dark romance non-con loving girly.
