“It is not our good deeds that make us just, but our hard choices.
Everyone is perfect when there are no difficult decisions to make, when they are on the outside looking in.”
I have mix feelings toward this one, there are some things I really like and find fascinating to know more about but there’s also things that makes me didn’t fully enjoy it.
I got the audio version of this book. I like the narrator’s voice, especially when she sings the song that the main character like to sing. I really like the tune and I find myself humming that song together when the narrator sings it.
The first few chapters are interesting and I got hooked into the story very fast. However, somewhere during the middle of the story, the pacing turns slow and the world building got slightly confusing. Fortunately, the pace picks up again when some of the twists are revealed in the last few chapters.
As for the characters, Addie (FMC) isn’t really a likeable character… I got annoyed by her actions throughout the story probably because she’s too naïve since she was sheltered from the world by her own family. I would’ve liked to see her character grow in the next book because I can see a potential that she could become a badass one.
Overall, for a debut novel this was a pretty good one.
It’s a unique combination of historical fiction x fantasy romance which I like to see more of and I hope there would be exploration regarding the world building and the characters.
I’m looking forward to read the next one to know the answers to some of the mysteries left unanswered from this book.
I received an advanced review copy for free through Netgalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Huge thank you to the author and publisher!
