Human Acts
by Han Kang
Damn. Haunting, human, unforgettable… they should really give Kang a Nobel Prize or something!
Some parts were stronger than others but Kang creates a compelling, horrifying through line. Her ability to give weight to a historical account by anchoring it to an individual/family experience is like no other. So moving and devastating, you will cry.
I read We Do Not Part before Human Acts, and still prefer the former, but I’m glad I read both to get to know her better as an author.
As usual, impressive translation and I really appreciated the translator’s intro.
