The Charmed Life of Alex Moore by Molly Flatt

3.0

I kept picking this book up because the mixture of contempoary and sci-fi sounded so interesting to me. But then I wouldn't get further than the first chapter. This time I perservered because this cover was perfect for Autumn and the book itself is one I have had on so many TBRs.

This book is about Alex Moore. Six months ago she changed her life around and started a huge new company centred around wellness. But she keeps having these strange dizzy spells when she thinks about the Alex she was before, and then a strange man accuses her of killing someone. She goes to an island in the Orkneys (north of Scotland) and everything gets revealed to her.

Now this is definitely a book you don't want to be spoiled too much about because I didn't know what was going to happen and that was my main driving force for this book. Alex is a not a terribly likeable character, especially at the start of the book, but you get the sense that something is really wrong. Then she struggles throughout the rest of the book as her mind works against her and the pace of her life continues even without her input. I really enjoyed this book. The characters were okay,
the romance came a little out of left field
, the writing was a little all over the place but it was the plot that kept me going. I just needed to know what had happened and how it would be resolved. And I really liked how it was resolved in the end. I really enjoyed the details of this plot, I thought it was going to go one way and it went the other.

As I mentioned, the writing was a little all over the place. There would be something exciting happening and then it would be a time skip and suddenly Alex would be somewhere else. I kept thinking it was some kind of weird dreamscape/memory going on but it wasn't, the book was just written like that. I think I would have liked this book a lot more if it was about a hundred pages shorter.

3 stars!
