The Flirt Alert by Kaylene Winter
3.0
The Flirt Alert by Kaylene Winter is a fun read filled with spice, romance, and emotion. Readers are introduced to Shay and Austin, who have known each other since high school. Shay is the twin sister of Austin's best friend, Miles, and Austin has had a crush on Shay ever since he could remember. The popular beauty queen was way out of his league, but after a surprising turn of events, his wish came true, and he was able to experience a night with her. But things don't end up as he expected, and his feelings of love turn to hate.
Shay has a secret that even her close friends don't know about. A secret that has been the culprit in bad experiences and mistaken events. After years of not seeing each other, Shay is offered a job by her brother, Miles, as the new Marketing VP of Austin and Miles's gaming company, Hungry Llama. Austin is livid and will do whatever it takes to get Shay to quit. The two enemies are forced to work with one another, and at a local company went, they are stranded at a ski resort, forced to deal with the proximity and brewing feelings.
The story is marketed as an enemies-to-lovers romance, but I will say the 'enemies' only lasts about 15% of the book. It came more Insta-Love and had very little angst. I appreciated the spice, even though it felt, at times, that the spice was not needed. Austin's character felt too forced at times. My favorite thing about this story was Shay's resilience to herself and her 'secret.' It completely took hold of her entire life, and I appreciated the level of depth the author instilled into the story to make it feel real. Overall, it was a good read, and I liked it. I look forward to the next installment of this series, The Tryst List!
P.S. The meaning of The Flirt Alert as a hotness rating scale is so cute, and I loved it!
