Endgame: The Calling
by James Frey, Nils Johnson-Shelton
WARNING THIS IS FULLLLLLLLLLLL OF SPOILERS DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED
Ok I HATED this book with a passion. Like a really BIG passion. I tried not to read the book I really did. One time I had the chance to read it but only got to the first five chapter. AND THOSE FIRST FIVE CHAPTERS AREN'T ANYTHING TO BRAG ABOUT. So then, months later I go to a library and the book just sticks out and I had remembered that I read it before but, that I didn't give it much of a chance ( and the book just looks so pretty and shiny).
So here I am reading this book and I was just so BORED. The writing was so DRY.

So then, months later I go to a library and the book just sticks out and I had remembered that I read it before but, that I didn't give it much of a chance ( and the book just looks so pretty and shiny).
So here I am reading this book and I was just so BORED. The writing was so DRY.
"Endgame has begun. Our future is unwritten. Our future is your future. What will be will be"
"We are the Players. Your Players. We have to Play."
"We are good and evil. Like you. Like all. But we are not together. We are not friends."
"Play. Survive. Solve. Our future is unwritten. Our future is your future. What will be will be. So listen. Follow. Cheer. Hope. Pray."
"Marcus is bored."
So I was bored and this will bring me to my next problem and my biggest the charcters.
I HATED THE MAIN CHARACTERS WITH EVERY FIBER WITHIN MY BEING. Yeah there are suppose to be tweleve main characters but there are some that are more focused on than others. Unfortunately I hated them. The first is Sarah Alploy, and at first I really liked her. She had a fairly normal life, a faithful and loving boyfreind, was graduating as valedictorian, and had dreams of the future. But that all crashed down when the Endgame started. She had to leave her boyfriend and family and go fight for her and her line's life, it's a big change. Its just how he handled it I didn't like. This is where the other main character comes into play, Jago Tlaloc.
Jago is from Peru and his family is very powerful and runs the city( in a not so nice way). He grew up fighting and training for the Endgame, like most Players, and he has these weird ass teeth with diamonds and gold in them, and his his nickname is "Feo"( which I was laughing my ass off when ever Sarah called him that).
So Sarah and Jago meet on a train in China before anyone else. Jago thought she was, and I quote,"The most beautiful American, maybe women, he's ever seen."I didn't like him instantly after that because I knew he was going to try and hit on her, she has a boyfriend. and i knew that she wasn't going to do anything about him hitting on her. AND I was right she thought "oh I know he likes me, let me use this to my advantage, at least until the end of the Endgames".
I DID NOT LIKE THIS ARRANGEMENT RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE BITCH YOU HAVE A BOYFRIEND AND YOU OVER HERE FLIRTING WITH THIS HIJO DE PUTA . LIKE GIRL NO.
Now lets get to the boyfriend Chrisopher, I liked him until pg.64. This dumbass goes after Sarah all like "I can help, I don't know what the Endgame is nor do I beilive in it but I want to help Sarah, I like puzzles". Which I like his mindset but BITCH SHE DON'T NEED YOU. SHE HID ANOTHER LIFE FROM YOU, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT SHE OR THE OTHER PLAYERS ARE CAPABLE OF. So every thing that happened to him after that I felt no sympathy because she specifically said TO NOT GO AFTER HER. (Which Sarah ends up killing him in this really dramatic scence filled with "I love you's" that I skimmed over, which is another thing because Sarah STILL LOVED CHRISTOPHER THREW ALL THIS)
So then after Christopher FINALLY finds her with Jago he felt "unless" and was "jealous of the looks they gave each other" and "how well their chemistry was". Jago was an asshole because he was in "loooooove" with Sarah (which made me hate him even more, because all he could think about was her). THEN THIS SARAH BITCH WAS ALL LIKE I NEED TO LET CHRISOPHER GO AND "PLAY WITH JAGO, MAYBE FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM, MAYBE DIE WITH HIM BUT I'LL BE WITH HIM UNTIL THE END AND JUST LEAVE WHILE CHISTOPHER IS ALSEEP IN ITALY".
So I was like " No bitch you can't just treat Chrisopher like that. So This whole thing was such an uhhhhhhhhhhh for me because I hate love triangles, I didn't like Jago( more because I felt like he was head over heels for Sarah), and I just didn't like how Sarah was handling the situation.
NOOOOOOOOWWWWWW to the other charcters. My favorite charaters were An Liu ( this cute Chinese kid who like bombs and just wants to kill everyone/ also has this weird shaking problem), Chiyoko Takeda ( this badass Japanese girl who is the only one in the game who has good mind in this game and is the only cure to An's shaking problem, which I thought was so cute), and Hilal ibn Isa al-Salt( This really cute peaceful guy who doesn't want to fight and wants everyone to work together, though he is really badass too its soooooo cute and I nicknamed him Salt).
BUT THENNNNNNNNNN THIS BOOK WANTS TO FUCKING KILL OFF TWO OF THE ONLY FUCKING CHARACTERS I LIKED AND ONE WAS ACTUALLY PRETTY IMPORTANT.
The other characters I didn't really know. Baitsakhan(I nicknamed him bait) and Maccabee were assholes who wanted to kill everyone. Marcus died qiuckly, which is good because I disliked him from the first chapter. Didn't know much about Kala. Alice was from New York, her dad died, and she knows something no one else does. Shari has a husband and a daughter and plays a big part in the next book, which is literally the only reason why i would want to read the next one. Don't remember anything about Asling.
One thing I found funny was that people who found out where the Earth Key was didn't even go for it. Shari, Alice, Alsing, and Salt (kind of) all knew where it was but didn't go for it. I also found it funny how Sarah and Jago were THE LAST ONES TO FIGURE that the earth key was at Stonehenge, the only reason Chiyoko didn't go earlier was because Sarah and Jago had something she needed. Hell I EVEN KNEW ON PAGE 164, which is another reason why the book wasn't that enjoyable. I knew the place wayyyyy to early in the book so it was so boring to see the players try to figure out where it was when I already knew where it was.
In the end I think Sarah will win because most of the book she said she will saty with Jago until the end and that ( in the beggining anyways) that she will win witht he help of him. Jago an the other hand will give up just about anything for Sarah, and is thinking that they are going to win together, or some shit like that, he's just blinded by love.
Anyways that was my review, well more like a rant, about this book. Would really reccommend this to anyone, maybe middle schoolers?
BUTTTTTTTTTT I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS BYYYYYYYYYYE
