Ruthless Reign
by Aleatha Romig
Lucille had the perfect fairytale whirlwind romance to a literal prince. From the outside everything looks perfect but inside her marriage is a very different story. With the King getting sicker it is almost time for her husband, Prince Roman Godfrey to take the crown. But tensions in the kingdom of Molave have never been higher and the Prince isn’t helping matters with his brisk attitude and radical political views. Not to mention his jealousy of the people’s love of his wife and tolerance of him. With The Firm breathing down her and her husbands neck it’s no wonder she can’t manage to fulfill her marital duties of producing an heir.
As tensions mount among the people and unrest begins, Princess Lucille slowly begins to be shut out from the rest of the Royal Family. When she disobeys orders and shows up anyway, she discovers her husband has had a sudden change of heart. Now Lucille needs to figure out what is going on and who to trust quickly before she becomes the next problem for them to solve.
Aleatha is a new author to me but I gotta say after this book I am already a new fan! I am a sucker for a good Royal romance and the intrigue and mystery in this one had me hooked! I had a pretty good idea of what I thought was going on until the end when she completely pulled the rug out from under me. Fair warning this is a series and this does end on a cliffy but I promise it’s not a traumatic one and it’s totally worth it. And that’s coming from a girl who is a huge baby about cliffys.
The dynamic between our two main characters was so addictive and slow burn is real. I was practically begging by the time we finally got some steam. I was fairly convinced this one was going to have a trope I dislike but the revelation at the end changed everything (which also made me very happy).
If you’re a fan of Royal Romance, romantic suspense, slow burns, twisty plots and The Crown vibes then I think you will love this one too! I cannot wait for the next book. I have so many questions I need answered
