I thought the writing was very fresh and shockingly free of cringe, which is rare with YA. The main character was actually funny/witty  without it feeling forced. I just don't always love the we have a huge secret trope and wish we had seen the characters as a couple for a bit longer, navigating the MC's asexuality a bit more.

MC's mother died of cancer prior to the start of the events of the book, so there are mentions of that. Also the love interest's brother has terminal cancer as well and they bond over that. I would say it is not the main feature of the book and it gracefully handled with no gratuitous descriptions, but it is present.
