This book had something like three incredible chapters with seven incredibly boring chapters wedged between them. Overall this series was more inconsistent than Song of the Lioness - I wanted Daine to have a human friend other than Numair, and I never quite understood her loyalty to Tortall. I liked the world building and the plot, but too much of this final book happened off screen while Daine was screwing around in the Realm of the Gods. I mean... I know that's the name of the book. But most of the book was just Daine sleeping in the Realm of the Gods, having dreams about Tortall.
On the other hand this is a YA series from the nineties that I read for the frost time at age 32; maybe I would have been more taken by it had I read it as an actual child.
