The Boy Who Invented TV: The Story of Philo Farnsworth by Kathleen Krull, Greg Couch

4.0

What an interesting story about the true inventor of television. Philo was quite young, about 22 years old, when he invented TV, but he thought about it for five or six years before that. He had the drive and interest, he had the time to think and not think (because sometimes not-thinking helps us solve problems better), and he finally got the financial backing. But he didn’t have the experience with patent law and the court system to stand up to RCA, so he lived decades of unhappiness, bitterness, and likely financial struggles. Not until after his death did his widow and a former teacher seem to convince the American people that he had created the first television.... and I’m glad they did.

The story is clear, even for people who don’t understand mechanics, and the illustrations are colorful and add significantly to the story.
