Book 29: Stella by McCall Hoyle
On the Texas Bluebonnet List 2022. Trying to read many of the books on this list. My basket of library holds is overflowing with all of the books on this list as well as the ones on the Lone Star list. Reviewed for ages 8 and older.
Synopsis: Ever since she was a puppy, Stella was trained to use her powerful beagle nose to sniff out dangerous chemicals and help her handler keep people safe. But during a routine security inspection, Stella misses the scent of an explosive. The sound of the blast is loud and scary. Unable to go back to work because of her anxiety, Stella is retired as a working dog.
Told from Stella’s perspective, this story is about a special dog who must find the courage to overcome her fears in order to help save a young girl with Epilepsy.
Review: I try to go into books blindly, don’t read the teasers on book jackets. Stella was a book I had no idea what it would be about, no idea the book was told from the perspective of the dog either. When I got to the part where the young girl has a seizure outside a hardware store, I had a tear running down my face right in the waiting room at one of my son’s appointments. This story tugged at my heart strings, loved Stella the dog, told with a great voice. Loved the whole book, 5 ⭐️.
