Daphne du Marier terrifies me.
The predictable ending just makes it all the more creepy and edge-of-your-seat; it's like waiting for a song to drop-you know it's going to happen, but you need to hear it anyway.
(I listened to the audiobook read by Barbara Rosenblat.)
I hated the use of the evil albino man stereotype.
I also wish that Mary hadn't jumped straight into a presumably abusive relationship. If a man warns you how terrible a partner they'll be, believe them.
