After the dramatic end in The Secret Fire, I stalked NetGalley for this book. I had to know what on earth was going to happen now, and how would Taylor and Sacha ever stand a chance of defeating the darkness.
The Secret City is a book that follows on from it's predecessor amazingly. It packs its own punch and certainly keeps this plot alive. We start The Secret City with Sacha and Taylor at St Wilfred's college learning how to use their powers, and researching every book they can get hold of. With Taylor in training learning to control her power and Sacha doing the research it's hard for this duo to actually use each other and practice as a team, the alchemists wanting Taylor to learn how strong she really is without the help of Sacha.
But the appearance of Mortimer Pierce and his demonic power put a hold on things, as they all realise they have very little time left for research and study, they must face this battle head on as soon as possible.
The Secret City is a book that draws you back into this world with Sacha and Taylor, and takes you on a crazy, dangerous adventure with them. It somehow keeps you on your toes and wondering what will happen next, but also gives you enough detail to keep you wanting more, to find out how this will all end. I'll be honest, there were moments that I really thought that was the end, that there was no more fight left to give and darkness would prevail. The journey with Sacha and Taylor is not an easy one, and with several twists and turns along the way it's not even a definite outcome, it all hangs on possibilities and chance.
The Secret City was a book that pulled me back into this world, and was one I was very reluctant to leave when I reached the final word. I love the characters within the pages and actually found myself changing my opinions of a few of them.
