The Fire Keeper by J.C. Cervantes

4.0

A strong follow up to the first book.

The thing I think I enjoyed the most is that this book throws a lot of things we know on its head. The first book read very much like a Percy Jackson book, in terms of both style and plot beats. This book takes the foundation of that style and goes wild with it.

My favorite character here is easily Ah-Puch, which I was not expecting, because we spent the whole first book with him as our big bad. And now we have him here handcuffed to us and along for the ride. His interactions with Ren were also so so good.

I loved everything about this book. Especially the way it subverted my expectations.
