My expectations were so high for this book that I kept pushing off reading it because that’s how much I didn’t want to be disappointed. I mean a 1920’s retelling of Romeo and Juliet set in Shanghai with an amazing person, Chloe Gong, as the author sign me up. This book was such a crazy ride. The yearning between Juliette and Roma was chef’s kiss. The backstory of how their love was always doomed to fail yet they couldn’t fight it, loved that. Chloe Gong definitely knew what she was doing. The mystery of the monster throughout this book was so well done and I loved how Miss Gong added that plot to truly amp up the stakes. I loved the Romeo and Juliette aspects but I loved how the author built upon the story and truly made it hers. AND THEN THAT ENDING CHLOE GONG STOP PLAYING WITH ME
