Leaving Me Behind by Sigal Ehrlich

3.0

Liv has been in a holding pattern for too long with her successful career, always traveling best friend, and never letting her boyfriends, therapist, or parents get too close to her. She decides to leave it all and take a year long trip to a small town in Spain to break this cycle. While there she eats delicious foods, makes a group of friends, and meets the captivating Sebastian who seems intent on breaking through her walls.

I liked the concept and chemistry between Liv and Sebastian, but I just could not connect with this story. Although it was a journey of self discovery for Liv, I felt she knew her flaws and barriers, as did everyone else fairly soon after meeting her. I thought her friends could have been interesting, but they had a problematic conversation throughout the book about “beta” men which was dated (even for 2015) and, in my opinion, harmful. I think this just was not the group of characters for me, but it really might work for some!
