Carry on by Rainbow Rowell

5.0

"You have to pretend you get an endgame. You have to carry on like you will; otherwise, you can't carry on at all" (page 143). In the whole book, this is one of the quotes that stood out to me. Simon Snow might be an untypical chosen one, he makes a lot of mistakes, can't always control his powers, and he isn't sure if he is going come out of this situation alive; that quote was one of his ways of telling himself it was going to be alright. He has to believe it, or else he has no hope to keep going. Since Simon Snow is a fictional-fictional character, it is easy for the reader to get thrown into his story. We don't get to see the first few years of his life; we only see the one year that changes everyone's life. Considering we don't know much about the characters before,or how they changed, there is still a good amount of characterization. We see how Simon and his friends change through their last year at school. We get to see how all the crazy and mysterious adventures affect them. Even though it's the "last book" in the series, there is so much happening to the characters. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and enjoys a not-your-normal-type of story lines. After all Simon Snow is the untypical chosen one, he does not have full control over his powers, nor does he fall for the most expected people. This book is a fresh breath of air out of all the chosen ones book out there.
