My Review on The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
Rating: ★★★★★
Format: Library checkout, eBook

In a single word: Stunning. The prose is so exquisitely written I felt an irresistible urge to annotate every passage.

This novel made me cry tears of both sadness and joy countless times, the emotion pouring from the pages into me. It’s the perfect read for a rainy autumn night, with musky candles flickering in the background. This story shattered me and Im all the more better for it.

A few of my favorite excerpts:

"The old gods may be great, but they are neither kind nor merciful. They are fickle, unsteady as moonlight on water, or shadows in a storm. If you insist on calling them, take heed; be careful what you ask for, be willing to pay the price.... And no matter how desperate or dire, never pray to the gods who answer after dark."

"It is sad, of course, to forget. But it is a lonely thing, to be forgotten. To remember when no one else does."

"I would have lost my mind."
"Oh, I did," she says blithely.
"But when you live long enough, even madness ends."

"What she needs are stories. Stories are a way to preserve one’s self. Stories come in so many forms: in charcoal, poems, films. And books. Books, she has found, are a way to live a thousand lives—or to find strength in a very long one."
