Lose You to Find Me by B. Celeste
3.0
I've been pondering what to say in this review about Lose You to Find Me for days. It truly is a case of "I really wanted to like this book, but..." It is also and most probably a "me problem." While Caleb is adorable and swoony, even amid his flaws, Raine annoyed me. It was really hard to connect with her and feel empathy.
Their main issue is communication. He proposes, and she doesn't accept. No explanations. Just a "I'm sorry." The real issue isn't revealed until the story is at 60%, and she doesn't explain it to Caleb until 80%. Is she young? Yes, even at 24. But for someone studying psychology and wanting to help others, she certainly didn't apply the notions to herself. I can understand her not saying anything to her parents, with whom she has a rocky relationship. But not saying anything to even a friend or to the guy/best friend she has been with for seven years? Really? Not once talking to a professional? The not saying anything went on for years. Years!!!
The way the conflict wrapped and its timing also fell so far stretch. Maybe I'm being too harsh. But by that point, I couldn't stand Raine and had a hard time wanting to finish the book.
