Brief? Wonderous? Heh. There was something about this story that prevented me from being fully invested and engaged in it. I felt very removed from it. Not sure if it was being unfamiliar with the cultural aspects, or if it was the way the story was told, in a second person perspective reflecting on the past, rather than having any immediate action. Usually I love historical fiction, and while the parts about DR's history were interesting, I just couldn't get into this one. Everything was also just too depressing for me and everyone's life was pretty much a disaster. I wanted some semblance of hope, but it wasn't to be found here.
