I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman

4.0

Walt Whitman's words feel like an optimistic presence. I Hear America Singing is the depiction of America as an energetic nation that is progressing with mirth. In the poem, Whitman presents "the varied carols" of different occupations - male and female. The masculine rendition of work comes first, followed with the feminine gentleness; gentleness and delicate intricacies of the "carols", however, are mingled throughout. What makes the poem delightful is how the diversity gets unified and forms the idea on which the concept of nation relies.
