Jewel of the Endless Erg by John Bierce

4.0

A solid follow-up to the first book, featuring slightly improved writing and a good dose of action.

This series is young adult and not ashamed of it, and thus is a little out of my wheelhouse. It's got the usual trappings; teenaged protagonists that are uncommonly competent, a hint of cringy romance, and a fast=paced easy to follow plot. Nothing here is offensive, and it's definitely a page-turner. I like the characters, despite them being pretty undeveloped, and Alustin especially is fun, despite him being a sort of discount Eithan from Will Wight's Cradle.

This series isn't anywhere near the top of my to-read list, but it's a fun little romp and I plan on getting back to it eventually.
