Ring
by Kōji Suzuki
some aspects of this story are glaringly problematic especially reading from a contemporary western perspective, but as far as the story goes, i was INVESTED. the pacing, atmosphere, and tone building all added to a building sense of tension, and i couldn’t put it down. it read almost like a thriller would with some aspects of horror incorporated. i’ve also never seen the film adaptations to have any comparison or foresight into how the plot might unfold (besides the basic premise), so i enjoyed it.
