This collection is brutal and raw and honest. Every word hurts a little more than the last. This poet/narrator has been through a lot as a Black girl/woman living in America. In this collection Canyon explores how it feels to be the daughter of drug addicts and abusers, how it feels to grow up as a Black woman in a racist country, how it feels to be so poor that you experience the horror of homelessness as a child.
