The Course of Irish History
by Theodore William Moody
The problem with the average history book, for me, is that it tends to focus more on dates and events and not so much on the people. This book did alright with outlining some of the major personalities, but the descriptions were sketchy at best. I mean, it was also covering the whole scope of Irish history in less than 400 pages, so I can't exactly blame it for being condensed.
