A Piece of Cake: A Memoir by Cupcake Brown
4.0

As many other reviewers have pointed out, Ms. Brown isn't the best writer, but I found her book - her STORY - incredibly engaging, and was able to look past what felt more like sitting down together for a cup of coffee to hear her narrative. It was hopeful and inspiring and thankfully not TOO preachy; as one reviewer wrote, she does not tell her story to inspire sympathy (although it's impossible not to feel it when reading about her formative years), but rather to inspire hope. Or, perhaps not even that - perhaps it's just to tell her story. She doesn't seem the type who wants to push anything on anyone else - she simply wants to share. Cupcake Brown, in her oddly disarming way, makes me want to be her friend.
