karinapplesauce 's review for:
This Time Next Year
by Sophie Cousens
The book started off pretty good - despite the fact that this was clearly written pre-pandemic, but everything sort of hinged on the years 1990/2020 so apparently they couldn't yank publication. So here we are, with a book that no longer makes historical sense. I mean, we all wanted 2020 to be a great year.
Ok, so ignoring all of that, I would say the first 70% of the book was adorable. Clearly missed connections, some history of near misses in the past, absolutely cute friendships and periphery characters, but then I just stopped rooting for the Quinn/Minnie dynamic and the book went downhill from there. I almost DNF but pushed through to the end. I would say the book was 4 stars through most of the book and ended with 1 star. Sigh, too bad.
