I'm gonna start by saying, I read Hook, Line and Sinker before reading this. When that one was release, everyone was talking about it and I wanted to read it. I was completely oblivious to the fact that there was a first book, let alone that this book took place before the other one. I thought Hook, Line and Sinker was a stand-alone. Silly me.
Keeping this in mind, I knew that Piper and Branden would end up together while reading this one. And yes, the majority of rom-coms do in fact end up with the couple together, but you never know. So when the whole debacle near the end off the book was happening, which happens in all rom-coms, I knew they were gonna overcome it. Kinda spoils the fun. But it was my own fault.
This book was so funny, so lighthearted. It's the definition of a pallet cleanser. The author did such a good job making me love Piper, considering that her personality in the beginning is low-key kinda of annoying. Still absolutely loved her throughout the book.
Branden was such a SIMP. Love it. The way he constantly wanted to spoil her! Like hello? Sir? Marry me.
Also this author wrote such a fun sisterly bond between Piper and Hannah. It was something very present in the book, not put in the background. Also, she made me so excited about Hannah and Fox that I went ahead and reread Hook, Line and Sinker.
Some scenes and dialogues were, to me, a little bit cringy. In wasn't anything major, very typical stuff for a rom-com.
The only reason why I don't give this book 5 stars is because it does start a bit slow. I know the author has to built up the plot of how the two protagonist meet, but I don't know why I felt like the beginning of the book took a lot of time. I usually don't mind this, but this time I did feel like the author was dragging the beginning of the story. I do think that this is actually a sign for me to take a break from rom-coms, but nevertheless.
Anyways, my veridic is 4.75 stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ✨
