The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture by Gabor Maté

challenging emotional hopeful informative reflective slow-paced

5.0

I typically find books like this to be slow and dense, but while this one was still a slower read due to the wealth of information, it remained entirely approachable. Given the subject matter—trauma, the impacts of society, gender, politics, childhood experiences, and more—there were moments when it felt overwhelming, leaving me concerned about making mistakes with my son. At the same time, it also validated some key aspects of my own life experience and its outcomes. Overall, it’s a highly informative, well-written, and important book.
